Brief Jack Straw
| The Rt. Hon. Jack Straw, M.P. Home Office 50 Queen Annes Gate London SW 1 H 9 AT Ref. Former General Augusto Pinochet Amsterdam, December 10th of 1998 Dear Sir, By means of this letter both the Chilean Community in Holland and the Dutch Solidarity Movement with Chile want to express their happiness and satisfaction with your decision to allow the procedure to extradite ex-dictator General Pinochet to Spain. We are fully aware of the complicated political and judicial argument you had to confront before reaching a decision. It is however our conviction that the defence of human rights in general and those of the victims and the families of the victims of the brutal Pinochet dictatorship in particular have received a firm support by the decision taken by you yesterday. Since the 2nd of December till today (10th of December) we have formed daily a piquet-line in front of the British consulate in Amsterdam. We are very grateful for the way the personnel of the consulate allowed us to express our concern and accepted our presence during all these days. Hoping that International Human Rights in the future can go on
counting with your support and that of the British government, we greet you respectfully. Sincerely yours, Org. for Activities on Latin America |
